OUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE PLANET: WE CLEANED THE BEACHES OF VALENCIA

The students of 2nd year International Baccalaureate participated in a very special activity that involved cleaning the beach in collaboration with Bioagradables.

This non-profit organization is dedicated to caring for and protecting the environment. Before we began, some of their members explained to us how we can help take care of the beaches of Valencia and told us about the most common types of waste, such as cigarette butts, bottle caps, cotton swabs, and cans. We also learned why this waste is so common often, people don’t dispose of it properly. For example, cotton swabs end up in the sea through storm drains, and cigarette butts shouldn’t be thrown on the ground.

After the talk, we split into two teams: one stayed to clean the beach, and the other went to the breakwater. We cleaned for an hour and a half and found a lot of trash! With the help of Bioagradables’ members, we recorded every piece of waste we collected. In the end, we gathered about 1,500 pieces of waste, mainly bottles, cans, and cigarette butts.

This activity not only taught us about caring for the planet but also helped keep Valencia’s beaches cleaner and more beautiful.
